Research Interests:

  • Structural and functional features of ichthyocenoses of freshwater, brackish and sea waters of the Northwest Black Sea region, species composition, stock assessment of commercial fish species, development of recommendations for increasing commercial fish productivity of reservoirs and effective regulation of fishing, protection of rare and endangered species, ecological problems of alien species.
  • State of populations, distribution and migration of sturgeon fish, assessment of the impact of fishing on their population, determination of vital habitats of sturgeon in the waters of Ukraine and development of measures for their conservation.
  • The current state of cetacean populations in the Antarctic and the Black Sea, studying the impact of fishing on cetaceans.

1980–1981 – junior researcher of the Mariculture laboratory of the Odessa branch of AzcherNIRO;

1981–1987 – researcher on the Whaling Fleet «Soviet Ukraine», Production Association “Antarctica”;

1987–1991 – engineer, researcher of the laboratory of raw materials of the Odesa branch of AzcherNIRO (YugNIRO);

1991–1994 – researcher of the Southern Scientific Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine;

1994–1998 – Leading researcher, Head of the Laboratory of Natural resources of the Odessa branch of YugNIRO;

1998–2002 – senior researcher, Head of the Group of Applied Hydrobiology, Odessa Branch of the Institute of Biology of the Southern Seas of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine;

2002–2018 – Director, leading researcher of the Laboratory of Natural resources of the Odessa center of YugNIRO;

2019–to date – senior researcher, Institute of Marine Biology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
